About the Role
The Director of Finance is responsible for managing financial
activities and ensuring fiscal compliance for the organization. The
Director will oversee general ledger activities, transactions, and
reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial information and
statements. The Director will provide financial reporting,
forecasting, and data/trend analysis. The Director will help
prepare the annual budget and will manage audit/monitoring
activities. The position will supervise Finance staff.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure that financial activities, policies, procedures, and
internal controls are compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting
Principles and applicable governmental, legal/regulatory, and
contractual requirements.
- Ensure that the general ledger is reconciled against
subledgers/other databases on a regular basis, and that general
ledger information is accurate and timely.
- Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
to manage and maximize cash flow.
- Review and ensure the accuracy of agency payroll.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and cash flow
reports.
- Perform detailed analysis of program, operational and financial
data to provide organizational guidance.
- Create customized financial reports for more effective
executive decision-making.
- Provide cost management recommendations and forecasting as
needed.
- Analyze departmental processes and functions and make
recommendations that support continuous quality improvement.
- Supervise Finance staff. Ensure that staff are adequately
trained, have the necessary resources, and perform with accuracy
and efficiency.
- Lead regular meetings with Directors to discuss financial
performance and make recommendations that minimize expenses and
maximize efficiency/outcomes.
- Work with program management to ensure contract-funded expenses
are allocated, tracked, and reported accurately.
- Prepare and analyze billings for federal, state, and private
funders. Recommend strategies that support full utilization of
available funding.
- Participate in Compliance Cabinet meetings and support
resolution of compliance issues.
- Help prepare the annual budget. Prepare project/program budgets
for funders as needed.
- Manage the annual audit process and prepare audit schedules.
Prepare information for programmatic and contract monitoring
visits.
- Support the preparation of the annual Form 990 and Form
5500.

- Special projects as assigned. Qualifications, Skills &
Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
required. CPA certification a plus.
- At least four years' experience in nonprofit accounting, fiscal
and single audit compliance, and/or financial management.
Experience managing governmental funding desired.
- At least three years of management experience, preferably in an
organization with a budget of at least $10 million.
- Knowledge of GAAP and/or GAAS strongly preferred.
- Proficient with technology; comfortable with frequent use of
multiple CRM databases. Experience with Abila MIP Fund Accounting
preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organization, planning and time management skills;
able to advance multiple projects concurrently.
- Critical thinking/analysis skills, process- and
detail-oriented.
- High integrity and impeccable ethics.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision and meet
all deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, complex, and diverse
workplace.
- Valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance as
required by law.
